Whither VoIP? It's Right Here

I've been reading a number of posts lately about how well VoIP is doing. Here are some examples:

From my good friend Andy Abramson -

VoIP Usage Continues to Grow

There seems to be a common trend in VoIP research. Every report says growth, growth, growth.

That's good news for companies in the space, especially those who get what the SOHO, SMB and Enterprise customers want. And, since this growth is all around SIP based platforms, not others, the developer marketplace is hot also.

Here's another from another pal, Rich Tehrani -

VoIP Growing at 53% to $24 Billion

The VoIP opportunity is still huge according to a new report from Infonetics Research. At a time when many industries are really hurting, hosted VoIP and managed IP PBX services grew 53% to $24 billion in 2007 after surging 66% in 2006.

And another from Gary Kim that comes complete with a nice chart -
Business VoIP Explodes

Worldwide revenue from hosted VoIP and managed IP PBX services jumped 52 percent to $24 billion in 2007 after surging 66 percent in 2006, and is expected to grow in the strong double-digits through at least 2011, say researchers at Infonetics Research.

There's a common thread here that's important.

VoIP is alive and real. It's here to stay. More than that, it's gaining ground as teh foundational element upon which we're building our telecommunications infrastructure for the next generation of business.

This is happening across the business universe from the SOHO and SMB space to the very large enterprise.

What's your VoIP strategy and how are you using it to leverage technology for the best in your business? If you aren't already using it, you're missing out and falling rapidly behind the curve.

Ken, I would certainly agree with your comments and visitor data from our last show certainly backs this up. We asked all attendees about their motivations for attending and of the 3,700+ attendees over 65% cited VoIP as 1 of 3 main reasons to attend with UC coming second with 54%.
The interesting thing was the % were well balanced between SOHO and SMB space to the largest enterprises.
