BridgePort Networks - MobileSTICK (or m:Stick) for VoIP

I've had a number of talks with folks from BridgePort Networks over the past two years. They're a company I've followed ever since our first encounter. Earlier this year they were acquired by CounterPath.

Bridgeport delivers a range of MobileVoIP applications, and one that's always fascinated me is there MobileSTICK.

Overview

The MobileSTICK solution enables mobile subscribers to start using their PCs for their existing mobile voice and messaging services, plus a host of compelling new applications, without adding a new phone number or changing phones. Mobile service providers can offer secure fixed-mobile convergence services to consumers today with the MobileSTICK. The solution combines a USB key with an embedded SIM card and a softphone client, with a PC using a broadband connection, and BridgePort Networks' NomadicONE Network Convergence Gateway within the mobile operator's core network to bridge the mobile and broadband networks.

I recently had the chance to play with an m:Stick for a couple of weeks and I was really impressed with how easy and seamless it is to use. I popped the SIM in my Nokia N95 and found myself making VoIP calls instantly and seamlessly. Fully transparent as a user.

The nicest part was being able to take the USB dongle from computer to computer and simply plugging it in allowed VoIP calls via any network connected computer.

m:stick

This is a technology I think lends itself perfectly to enterprise business. It's a solution that makes VoIP easy to deploy and manage. It takes the technical geekery out of using VoIP in a way I've not seen with other solutions. For many business operations, this approach could provider a no-brainer transition to VoIP services.

If you haven't checked out BridgePort Networks for VoIP solutions, you should. They haven't been as visible in the news as some companies, but they're solid and everything I've seen from them works smoothly and has exceeded my expectations. They're worth a look.
