Has Skype Lost Relevance?
Is it just me, or has Skype slipped off the radar for a lot or people. I don't autoload Skype any more. I haven't two or three months now. I start it when I need it, and that's the only time it's running.
Lately I've noticed that's less that once a week. In short, Skype has become irrelevant for almost everything I do.
I wondered if it was just me, so I've begun logging in 2-3 times a day to see who among my contacts are online. What's striking is how few are online at any given point on time. Then this morning I peeked in and almost everyone I know is online.
I'm curious about those of you who I don't have on my contact list or talk to often. Is Skype holding it's relevance for you? Is your usage declining? Or are you using Skype more and more?

Are you saying you don't use any IM? or do you use MSN or Yahoo more than Skype? What's taking it's place if people aren't using it anymore?
Some people have too many people Skype'ng them all day long, I suppose so they turn it off. I use it for people I connect with on a daily or weekly basis.
I like it's searchable history file, whereas Yahoo doesn't allow search. Skype allows me to format messages easier with the shift (or ctrl) key when pressing Enter to skip lines without sending the message. YIM requires the impossible CTRL key.
I'm still looking for the best Web Conference Room for group tutoring sessions with my students.

I rarely use traditional IM. I don't use Yahoo or AIM at all. I log on to MSN perhaps once every week or two. I rarely use Skype. I do use IM in Gizmo and the N800 Gtalk client a little.
SMS has replaced IM and is my primary IM tool these days. And I'm finding that's that case for a lot of people. Not all, but a lot.
I haven't actually talked or IM'd anyone in Skype for over two months, yet I talk to my Skype contacts more than ever. Just not via Skype any more.
