Introducing Someone New

I'm going to step out here and make a bit more of a welcome than I've seen. Several weeks ago I posted A Call to Women in VoIP  about the shortage of women in technology and at conferences, particularly as speakers. Almost immediately after that, several of us took note of TheVoIPGirl, Leanne Tremblay.

Several VoIP bloggers extended brief welcomes and many of us have added her to email, Skype and other lists. I'd like to set the stage for what I have in mind and introduce Leanne in a bit broader way. Her actual beginning foray into VoIP, as near as I've been able to tell, was with QuickStartVoIP, which is a great site for some very basic intro material for home , home office and small business users.

My work here in the Realtime community and blog is mostly focused on business, often leaning to larger enterprise business. Everyone who blogs about VoIP technologies is in some specialized space to a degree. Leanne's focus on home and home office users brings a perspective that looks at VoIP tools from tha angle in particular, so she'll be a huge asset in the VoIP blog collection.

Also, I'm interested in the viewpoint of women in the tech sector. I've talked to Leanne on Skype and via IM, and I'm in the process of putting together a few questions for her. Basically, I'd like to chat with her about how she got into VoIP and why, and her take on entering this sort of tech environment as a woman. And I'll ask her to share who she sees as her audience that she wants to write for mostly. Once we can get that all done, I'll post a "Get to know VoIPGirl" podcast here for you all to get to know her better. But in the meantime, you can follow her on The VoIPGirl blog.
