« Another attempt from Vonage | Main | VoIP Nirvana? How about sound business planning instead? »

More on Earlier Post

Earlier today I commented here about an article Nick Hoover wrote for Information Week. Lest you all think I was taking a shot at Nick or the article, that wasn't the intent. As I explained in email, I think the article fell into a common trap of interviewing customers who participated in a survey and not talking to networking professionals who are VoIP practitioners, doing real world VoIP implementations.

Earlier I didn't leave much room to allow for editiorial control, which often doesn't belong to the writer. Some of the sound-bite language sprinkled through the article, didn't necessarily come from Nick. Editors often like titles that catch the attention and intercede creating nuances other than those originally written.

Overall, while the article misses on a couple of points, Nick gets high marks for going the distance to talk to customers and users. I've offered to provide thoughts if he wants them in the future. And I've offered to help link Nick with some of you VoIP practitioners out in the real world. I think it's important that he be able to talk, not just to customers who made themselves available from a survery, but to VoIP professionals who do this sort of thing every day. So don't be surprised if I reach out and tap you on the shoulder and ask you to chat with Nick down the road.
