Some kind words and a quandry - To VON, or not to VON...

We got some very generous praise from Andy Abramson today. For those of you who don't know who Andy is, he co-hosts the "World Technology RoundUp" on a daily basis and the weekly audio magazine, "Speculations" with Ken Rutkowski on KenRadio and is the CEO of Comunicano, Inc. an advertising, marketing and public relations agency. Andy has some very keen insights into how player's fit together and what business strategies are rolling into play in the VoIP sector.  And by his own admission, he spends lots of time on the phone. Andy makes lots of "right partners" and is someone I pay attention to and read every day.

I was pleased, but surprised to read this in his post -

Ken Camp is providing some very needed technical analysis around VoIP as well as inside the industry insight. He's the kind of person I hope is in the audience and becomes a discussant at the Spring VON Bloggers Panel. We need people like him and Aswath to bring some of that technojargo stuff down to earth and explain it in terms that even I can understand. (Thanks for those incredibly kind words, Andy.)
To be mentioned in the same sentence with Aswath is a huge personal compliment. I'll have to work hard to live up to Andy's expectations. I've focused for several years on demystifying technology where I can. There's long been a semantic barrier between technologists and business people that impedes both. Sometimes, I can help folks on one side or the other across the barrier. When it happens, well, we call that a win-win.

I've been exploring the logistics of how to attend Spring VON myself. I've gone to a good many conferences, and when you aren't speaking or moderating a panel, sometimes just coughing up the registration fee out of your own pocket makes you think long and hard about whether to attend, even a premier industry event like VON.

If I do attend, it's going to have to involve some serious podcasting or webcasting from the conference, so I'm looking for some input from you. I know if I ask you to click a link and do something, many of you won't, so I'm going to paste some information about the VON highlights below. Please look them over. If there's a session that interests you, a session you'd like to hear podcast (perhaps the afternoon or evening after it's conducted), a session you'd like to see webcast somehow (I suspect Jeff Pulver will be doing some IPTV magic of his own), please take a minute to comment on this post and give some feedback.

I'm game to take a run at coordinating logistics and trying to get something put together if there's enough interest. So please tell me what at VON interests you enough to send me off to get it for you.

Ken, all bloggers are invited to blog Spring 2006 VON. To register, just send email to: jeffp@pulver.com.

Thanks for stopping in Jeff. I know I'd be able to blog if I were there. You do a great job of sharing with the blogging community. I was really looking for what podcasts and sessions our VoIP Community members would like from the conference. So far there hasn't been a whole lot of response, but I'll keep a close eye on the things to determine whether I juggle everything in my schedule so I can make it down to San Jose.
