New Wireless Travel VoIP/WiFi Gateway

Sometimes just subscribing to the RSS feeds for a Technorati tag can turn up an interesting bit of news. I just spotted this story and had to share.

SINGAPORE, 16th February 2006 - SMC Networks (www.smc-asia.com) launches an innovative all-in-one travel device, the new SMC Wireless Travel Voice Gateway (SMCWTVG).

Compact and versatile, the SMC Wireless Travel Voice Gateway (SMCWTVG) integrates the functions of wireless gateway and VoIP technology into one perfect device for the business traveler. Users can now select a myriad of functions based on their specific needs in different networking environments and at the same time also have the option to use the RJ-11 voice interface for VoIP calls and life line function

That's right, the handy little gadget in the picture is a travel wireless and VoIP gateway. Throw this in your bag and your hotel room becomes a WiFi hotspot, VPN link to your corporate network, and supports one FXS and one FXO interface with RJ-11 jacks. They say it will be available in the first quarter this year (about 6 weeks left) for $199 retail.

Hey SMC - send me one to test and evaluate? I'll test it, write it all up online here, and then we'll find a way to give it away to a Realtime VoIP Commmunity member after that. I'll test it on both cable and DSL connections and do a good solid review.

Ok readers, if they respond, I'll let you all know. And we'll figure out how to give it away to one of you once I've done the testing. Let's see if SMC is listening.
