Video on Network Management from Network General
I got an email pointing to some nicely done rich content from Network General this morning that I want to share. These all relate to a hot topic - network management. As I wrap up the Definitive Guide to Converged Network Management, it's an area near and dear to my heart.
As these vidoes are from Network General, keep in mind that they do have a product specific focus.
The rapid adoption of server virtualization can be attributed to its near-and long-term advantages, which include lower capital, energy, and labor costs in the datacenter. However, hosting multiple virtual machines on fewer servers often makes performance management much more challenging. Monitoring tools today are often focused on physical devices, and users must rely on manual processes to correlate application performance across virtual machines, physical servers, and the network.
The following video discusses how Network General’s Virtualization Forensics addresses these challenges by delivering real-time analysis and decision support capabilities to manage IT services that rely on virtual systems, and assures performance of virtualized resources based on the priorities of business services.

Network and application managers are challenged with an overwhelming need to analyze massive amounts of traffic, while managing application components distributed across the IT infrastructure. As a result, IT managers struggle to quickly pinpoint application issues and address the causes of performance degradation. The following video discusses how IT managers can transform application performance data into detailed knowledge about the status of IT and business services.

Network General is delivering a unique and meaningful capability to integrate NetFlow data with a much broader set of performance related resources to support optimizing and troubleshooting the infrastructure for superior network and application performance. With the addition of NetFlow data into Network General’s PMDB, NetFlow information can be compared with business-level IT service availability and performance using unique performance baselines and trends. This approach not only provides customers with a single workflow for monitoring and managing data, but also allows customers to gain a better understanding of application and network performance interrelationships across various IT infrastructure segments.
The following video discusses how IT managers can leverage Network General’s Network Intelligence Suite to interpret NetFlow data and provide insights into application performance, providing a broad context for isolating and solving performance and capacity-related issues.
