Skype tips on managing a developer ecosystem - eat your young
Phil Wolff has a strong, longstanding relationship with the folks at Skype. I don't, so I can ask more bluntly, what the heck is wrong with you people? This looks like a signal to your developer partners to jump quickly before you crush another. While it may have been a move that was planned and thought out for a long time, this is sure to start minor ripples of wonder among your developer community, especially the ones you've been inattentive to.
Dear Skype: A letter of concern from a Developer about SkypeFind and the Skype ecosystemI will say that I looked at the recent Skype directory enhancement and and sort of made it through before I fell asleep with my head bouncing on the desk. It's a huge ho hum for me and not something I'll ever use or find useful. For me it signalled another step by Skype away from relevance to me as a useful tool. I'm not sure if it's Skype management, or EBay leasing, but they're all one now. If I were a Skype developer, I'd be looking at Gizmo and moving my efforts quickly.
Personally, I see it as more on the ongoing decline. I seem to be the only one saying Skype's sliding downhill and losing relevance among the vocal bloggers, but I do believe it. It's as if they're nosing around the edge of the abyss, looking for the best spot to dive into dismal failure. I don't see things looking good for them really.
