VoIP or IP Telephony

The debate in the nuance between VoIP, transporting voice inside IP packets, and IP telephony, the broader suite of full telephony services, has been raging for years.

My friends and colleagues, Michel Gilbert and Trevor Hindson. at Hill Associates have posted an interesting podcast discussion on the subject as part of their PodSnacks series.

PodSnacks: VoIP vs. IPT

The world is abuzz about convergence. Actually, it's been abuzz for quite some time, so we're all a bit dizzy. However, convergence (which is the bringing together of voice, video, and data into common networks, services, applications, and devices) is clearly happening. And the buzz words have been flying now for years: VoIP, IPT, SIP, RTP, H.323, IPC.

In this PodSnack, Michel and Trevor discuss the difference between IP Telephony (IPT) and Voice over IP (VoIP). You can listen to the podcast here.
