O'Reilly - Confusion Reigns

I like the O'Reilly team. I especially like the ETel blogging team. O'Reilly books are always top notch.

I've never attended at O'Reilly conference for a number of reasons. I was especially pleased when they confirmed my press pass for the conference coming at the end of February; so pleased that I wrote about it here.

Now as fate would have it, I may or may not attend the upcoming O'Reilly Etel conference. It seems they can't make up their minds whether I qualify for a press pass or not. In today's email, it appears they've revoked their confirmation of that pass. And while I find the conference interesting as part of the industry, it's not one I'll pay out of my own pocket to attend.

I find myself losing interest rapidly and now I just don't know whether I'll be attending or not. I was planning to make travel arrangements today. Thankfully, I haven't gotten to that yet.

I sent an email to some of the folks involved and will see what shakes out, if anything. Timeliness, organizational skill and competence in putting on a conference are extremely important factors to me. I've done hundreds and hundreds of conferences like many in the tech sector. The really well done, and the really poorly done stand out.

I am not happy at the moment.
