Blackberry 8830 Battery Life

Now that I've had a couple of days to start getting comfortable with the new Blackberry 8830, there's one thing that really stands out above and beyond the Nokia N95, and that's battery life.

Blackberry devices have always had a great reputation for battery. It's probably important to keep in mind that this one doesn't have WiFi or a camera. Those do both represent a power drain.

But what I have found is that with normal phone usage (several calls per day), IM+ running Skype, and Gtalk running, the device pretty much gets through the whole days without a problem. I also have iotum's Talk-Now running all the time. That's three applications doing pretty continuous data transfer over the EVDO link, plus voice services. And it checks for email constantly.

It may not be a fair comparison given the feature set, but for mobile users the battery life issue is a real one. We're so often untethered from anywhere we can plug in to charge.
