Update on Nokia N95 Power Issues
Yesterday I had problems with a seriously impaired battery life on the Nokia N95. I was getting 90 minutes of standby time before the N95 shut down. Obviously, that just isn't going to do for a cell phone for anyone.
Like many folks evaluating the N95, I'd played with the onboard GPS capability and the Maps program that's built in.
On pure speculation, I explored the settings and found you can disable the onboard GPS in settings. Since I know GPS sucks the life out of the battery, I turned mine off. After an overnight and some further testing, my battery life is greatly improved and seems more in line with what I would expect now.
My guess is that the GPS receiver stuck in a powered-on mode and was draining the battery. I'll be doing some more testing and evaluating. Hopefully Nokia will be able to address power and memory management issues in firmware upgrades to improve glitches like this.

The N95 needs some serious attention. Battery life is pathetic if you actually use the phone for calls. I have every feature possible turned off and cannot get a reasonable days use out of it. Phone tends to hang, frequently mutes the mic, rings but can't be answered, half opens an application etc. Also slide mechanism is loose after 2 months use, keypad scratched by the top cover etc. This really is a piece of crap.

I've had my N95 for 4 months now, and changed my battery 3 times!!! I've not used my phone for the first few days and given it 10 real charges to condition the battery and have every function switched off, all applications i.e. screen turned down and still even without making a call it will be out of power and switched off in 3hrs!!!! Not to mention the fact it freezes on average of around 7 times a day meaning I have to turn the phone off and re-start!!! I've been a SonyEricsson user for the last 5 years and will be going back to them as I've never had a problem with any of their products ever!!! (9 SE phones!!!!) I have to say, I'm so so so dissappointed with Nokia and will not be using their crap again! What a joke!!! Anyone has a miracle battery cure for this sadly depressing phone please let me know!

Alon,
I had simliar battery life issues with my N95 previously. The battery life was deplorable. Now it's simply poor. I get far better life than you do, but I too run out of power if I make a lot of phone calls. The phone is good for perhaps a day, but not a long day, and not a busy day with lots of phone calls by any means.
I've constantly given Nokia feedback about the poor battery life, as has everyone who I know of testing one. It's by far the weakest point of the phone in my view. And given that my Blackberry will run for two days of heavy use without a charge, it makes the N95 very much a recreational phone for me, and one that just can't handle the drain of being used as a work phone.
It's a nice phone for features, but it isn't what I'd call a workhorse.

guys whats with all the fuss......i changed my settings and now i get 3-4 days out of my N95...all u have to do is to disable the positioning methods when u dont need them......and also disable the dual mode network broadcast....leave it on either GSM or UMTS depending on ur provider...this goes a long way in helping with battery life

i agree,
If all the functions are turned off PROPERLY your phone should do a good days work. Im my eyes thats all it needs to do for me as obviously i charge it at night.
This fun has so many features and really was a step in the right direction. Now you guys want a phone that has an amazing camera, dvd cam corder/great web browser sat nav with inbuilt gps system. Music player the list goes on.
But yet you cant take it camping, forget your charger and it will last for 4 days constantly.
Its a great phone that cant work miracles... get over it.

Hi. I'd just like to add that I have had the problem with the phone powering off when i slide open to receive a call. A few days ago I stuck a bit of folded paper under the bottom of the battery to wedge it in and have not had the problem again.

I have the same problem with the battery. As some of you suggested, I should turn off some application. I am just wondering which ones should I turn off, and where are they? I just got the phone 2 days ago...

Hi. To turn off GPS its:- Tools-Settings-General-Positioning-Positioning methods- Ensure all options are disabled (unticked) especially the "Integrated" GPS function. Hope this helps.

Battery life is a joke. Microphone has stopped working and i am currently on my 2nd handset which has decided not to turn on today. Nokia seems to have lost the lost the plot with there N Series phones - A complete disgrace in my opinion.

I've had my N95 for about 2 months now and I love it.
As people have mentioned, if you turn off GPS, you get about 3 days life out of the phone. I get about 2 days (I send about 20 SMS a day, and have about 3 or 4 phone calls at an average of 3 or 4 minutes).
Anyone having problems (i.e. freezing, no sounds, mic cuting out)... Your phone is faulty. Get it repaired or replaced. I know 3 people with this phone, and not one of us has had any problem.

Hello,
Download a new software patch. It's the software not the GPS, that runs down your power. Check the free download at nokia for your cell phone. You will get 12 hr instead of 9 hrs.
Thanks
