For SunRocket Customers - An Option from Packet8
The feeding frenzy on the freshly dead carcass of SunRocket ensued quickly as VoIP providers charged in to seize their customer base. And there's been plenty of speculation as to who might pick up the majority of SunRocket's customers.
This is the first I've seen with any ring of "officiality" to it, although it's still only a vague reference, not by name to "an organization managing the wind down of SunRocket, Inc." This lack of detail leads me personally to wonder whether it's really got anything to do with SunRocket and just who Packet8 signed an agreement with myself. At the least, it's a poorly written release.
That said, here's a option for SunRocket customers who had the rug yanked out.
Packet8 Selected as Preferred Replacement VoIP Service by SunRocket
SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- 8x8, Inc. (NASDAQ:EGHT), provider of Packet8 (http://www.packet8.net/) residential, business and video Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone services, today announced it has signed an agreement with an organization managing the wind down of SunRocket, Inc. to present SunRocket subscribers with a specially-priced offer to transition their Internet phone service to Packet8.
Under terms of the agreement, Packet8 will waive all regular start up costs associated with its residential service plans plus offer one free month of service, a value of over $100. SunRocket will communicate with its 200,000 + subscribers via an email and voicemail campaign recommending they transition their service to Packet8 immediately.
"8x8 is pleased to be able to quickly transition SunRocket subscribers that opt into the Packet8 service," said 8x8 Chairman and CEO Bryan Martin. "In addition to special pricing, Packet8 is making arrangements with its network service providers to rapidly port SunRocket phone numbers to Packet8's network in order to minimize the disruption that this transition may cause to their communication services. SunRocket subscribers will be able to choose from several plans, including the Packet8 $199 Freedom Annual Plan which they may already be familiar with."
Publicly traded, twenty year old 8x8, Inc. has been offering Packet8 Internet phone service since 2002 and has been awarded 68 U.S. patents for voice, video and VoIP technologies. At the end of its 2007 fiscal year ended March 31, 2007, 8x8 reported more than $53 million in revenue and approximately $12 million in cash and showed significant progress toward becoming cash flow positive.
"While we are very sorry to hear about SunRocket's financial issues, we want their former customers to know that 8x8 is very committed to providing the best possible communication services, features, prices and customer service to our new customers from SunRocket. We have offered residential phone service over the Internet for nearly five years, and are one of the only service providers who own all of the core technologies underlying our services, enabling us to also provide video services with our VoIP offerings, and complete, turnkey telecommunication services to more than 8,000 U.S.
businesses," concluded Mr. Martin.

I found several comments that looked suspect in their validity. All promoting Lingo. All from newly created Yahoo accounts. I've deleted them all because they are too similar to be real. If you're a real Lingo customer and happy with them, make it clear. I'm researching the IP addresses and assuming these are spam from someone aggressively promoting Lingo in a bad way. I also encourage direct and useful comment from Lingo. But not spam.
