News Release: New Global Telecom Signs Agreement to Support MSTAR’s Fiber-optic Triple Play Strategy

I recently had the pleasuer chatting with folks at New Global Telecom. They're the largest wholesaler of VoIP services to CLECs, ISPs and other network services providers. They impressed me as having a very solid vision of where communications technologies. Here's an example of what they're up to.

New Global Telecom Signs Agreement to Support MSTAR’s Fiber-optic Triple Play Strategy

GOLDEN, Colorado – May 22, 2007 – New Global Telecom (NGT), the nation’s leading provider of wholesale hosted and trunk-based VoIP solutions, has announced the signing of MSTAR and the successful migration of its more than 5,000 end users to NGT’s Wholesale VoIP services platform.

MSTAR is Utah’s largest and fastest growing fiber-optic service provider and the nation’s second largest licensed Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) provider. The company will use NGT’s Wholesale VoIP telephony solutions to support the expansion of its ultra high-speed triple play services (Internet, telephone and television) and related communications into the household and small- to medium-sized business (SMB) marketplace.

“NGT and our Wholesale VoIP platform is a perfect match for MSTAR’s aggressive yet intelligent approach to the consumer and SMB VoIP marketplace,” said John Guillaume, senior vice president, product and marketing for NGT. “MSTAR’s selection of the NGT platform further validates NGT’s leadership position in delivering value to service providers seeking VoIP services.”

Over the past year and a half, MSTAR has made drastic changes to its business model to provide services to Provo’s city-wide fiber-optic network as well as UTOPIA, the state-wide fiber optic network. These changes included creating one of the top engineering staffs in the state, adding IP telephony and television services and creating an entire infrastructure for support and billing.

“Not only was the transition of our end users smooth and seamless, but NGT actually supported us in our transition to this new business model,” said Tim Brown, MSTAR’s chief technology officer. “The NGT team clearly understands what it takes to be successful delivering VoIP services, and they have positioned themselves as a key player in support of our triple-play services on the iProvo and UTOPIA networks and our expansion into the SMB marketplace.”

iProvo is a municipally owned and operated, city-wide, fiber-optic network located in Provo, Utah, providing the critical infrastructure to make voice, video and Internet service available to every home and business in the Provo community. UTOPIA is a coalition of fourteen Utah cities that have joined together to create one of the nation's most robust fiber-optic networks.

MSTAR is now the premier triple play provider for both networks and is rapidly gaining market penetration and recognition as one of the area’s top Internet service providers (ISPs). Utah Valley Magazine readers recently voted MSTAR as one of the valley’s top ISPs, ranking above Qwest in the quality of services delivered.
