News Release: Jabber MomentIM 5.2 Now Available

I confess I don't use Jabber much directly, and I'm not likely to rush out and download this client any time soon myself. My IM client tools are more tightly integrated and coupled with specific tools. But Jabber's at the root of many things and this is worth watching.

Jabber MomentIM 5.2 Now Available
High Performance Windows Desktop Client Provides COM-based Plug-in Architecture for Extensive Customization Capabilities

April 30, 2007 – Denver, Colo. – Jabber, Inc. today announced the general availability of Jabber MomentIM™ 5.2. This new, feature rich, highly programmable Windows desktop instant messaging (IM) client was developed from an entirely new code base and provides:
  • A smaller hard disk footprint, download size, and memory footprint than competing products
  • Full access to and tight integration with Windows capabilities
  • A unique COM-based plug-in architecture
“Jabber MomentIM’s plug-in capabilities and programming interfaces help organizations and third party developers to easily and cost effectively create plug-ins in any language that supports COM interfaces including C, C++, C#, and Visual Basic,” said Dave Uhlir, vice president of products and services at Jabber, Inc.

This brandable client delivers industry-leading features including persistent group chat, notifications and presence settings, web conferencing integration, and interoperability with AOL® Instant Messenger™ (AIM®), Google™ Talk, and other IM clients. New end-user features include:
  • Stacked Tabbed Interface. This feature improves the user’s ability to manage multiple open chat windows. Each window is layered with visible tabs providing one click access to the window.
  • Message Prioritization. Users can designate a message as ‘high’ or ‘low’ priority.
  • User Defined Hotkeys for Messages. End users have the ability to define text strings and associate each with a specific hotkey. When the hotkey is used the phrase will automatically be inserted into the message.
Advanced features are available in a bundled plug-in pack and sold separately. The bundle includes:
  • Quick Conference. Users can invite contacts to an auto-created temporary group chat.
  • Microsoft Outlook Integration. Presence is automatically derived from the Outlook calendar. Chats can be initiated with a single click from within Outlook’s mail and contacts interfaces.
  • History on Demand. Enables retrieval of group chat histories.
  • Disable Outflows. Provides the ability to restrict copy and print functionality in group and one-to-one chats.
