Vlogging - Hot weekend topic

At VON last week, Dina Kaplan from blip.tv asked the question "Why not video blog?" A natural question given Dina's role, but also a fit with the video focus that seemed to pervade at VON last week.

My friend Andy almost immediately responded in typical Andy style, with a SightSpeed video blog post. The conversation, viral as it is, has gone everywhere the past two days.

Check the posts from Andy, Alec, Jeff, Paul, Luca, Brad, sorry if I missed anyone.

Two thoughts from me. First, I've been talking to Peter Csathy the last few days about how SightSpeed can be an awesome vlogging tool. Peter's got the SightSpeed tech tean investigating an idea I had that will allow posting a 2 minute vlog post absolutely simply and seamlessly. If we get that idea working as I anticipate, I easily see a vlog post a day to add to the written posts and podcasts I do already. And rhis week I've found SightSpeed's video mail to be a phenomenal value.

But Jeff Pulver also gave is a clue when he told us what tool he's been using - Serious Magic's Vblog It. So I grabbed a copy and in less that an hour to download, configure and record, here's my contribution to the conversation.

Done simply and easily with the free demo, which only allows a 90 second video. But at $49.95, I'll probably have the full version set up before bedtime.

Paul Kapustka goes farther beyond with an even higher upscale production program from the same software vendor called. he uses Visual Communicator 2 from Serious Magic.

Will I switch to vlogging? Nope. But video as another facet of online tools is here to stay. I'd rather jump on that bandwagon that stick my head in the sand. Just like podcasting changed streaming audio media, vlogging is going to shake up blogging again. Last week I wrote about Radio Hand Stream Codes and what Brian McConnell has been doing with streaming audio. But I'm a realist. Brian can do the same thing with video once things catch on, and I'm going to keep up with content delivery methods no matter what the media.
