Sipera's Viper Lab and Upcoming Feature

For those who haven't followed closely,Sipera Systems VIPER Lab has really been contributing to the body of knowledge about VoIP security for some time now. They've been around far longer than they've been at the top of the radar screen, but they've leaped into the active community of VoIP researchers who overall have identified over 20,000 potential security threats in the last four years. Here's a brief note from their web site -

Sipera proactively identifies VoIP threats through its Sipera VIPER Lab which is comprised of knowledgeable VoIP and security architects and engineers. Every day, these VIPER Lab staffers research and identify vulnerabilities and potential exploits in VoIP protocols, VoIP equipment and phones. To date, they have published threat advisories for several WiFi/dual-mode phones, softphones and VoIP hardphones including those allowing remote attackers to carry out VoIP-to-data exploits, spoofing and denial-of-service attacks, unwanted reboots, and uninitiated toll calls.
I've had the distinct pleasure of working on a couple of conference panels with some of the thought leaders from Sipera. I also count Brendan Ziolo, their Director of Marketing, among my personal friends. While we haven't seen each other in years, Brendan and I worked together several years ago at the vortex of some incredibly exciting times in the evolution of the IPSec VPN industry. I'm working with Brendan to do a special podcast briefing in the next few weeks with someone from the VIPER Lab that I think is going to be noteworthy.

I encourage everyone to pay attention to the VIPER Lab VoIP Threat Advisories. Their blog, while not highly active, is well worth watching too.
