IntelePeer White Paper on ENUM and Connecting VoIP Islands

IntelePeer is a company that's just recently showed up on my radar. I was slated to do a briefing call with Cyril Matthews, their VP of Marketing, last week. Because of all the VON frenzy, Cyril and I weren't able to chat. We have connected on Facebook and Plaxo Pulse and other tools we use since then, but I haven't been able to reschedule the briefing chat just yet.

Here's a little about IntelePeer from their web site.

IntelePeer™, Inc., is a VoIP managed-service provider offering global peering infrastructure, network interoperability, industry-leading quality of service and advanced VoIP-enabled applications capabilities. IntelePeer™ maps the world’s phone numbers to resolvable IP addresses by combining an advanced carrier-grade VoIP peering infrastructure with the world's largest Carrier ENUM registry totaling over 250 million phone numbers to interconnect IP, TDM and hybrid-network service providers at disruptively low prices.
And here's some news from FierceVoIP about an IntelePeer white paper they've just made available here.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters: An Overview of ENUM for Connecting VoIP Islands

This white paper describes the current state of VoIP interconnectivity and proposes a solution for advancing the interconnect model with improved quality and reduced cost.

From any perspective, significant economic, structural and technological changes now require new thinking and approaches to solve the challenges facing the telecom industry. Major shifts in usage patterns and the emergence of IP-based systems have resulted in the contraction of traditional revenue sources for incumbent carriers.

The good news? Consumer broadband and new Voice over IP (VoIP) services such as media-on-demand are creating an unprecedented opportunity for a new breed of service providers to enter the telecom market and win substantial revenue away from incumbents, introducing disruptive solutions and technologies in the process.

  • Service providers that can deliver on price, Quality-of-Service (QoS) and feature functionality will be the big winners with consumers.
  • E-communities like AIM, Yahoo and MSN that incorporate advances in communications functionality will be able to retain users and grow their base, making them a more attractive outlet for advertisers.
  • Enterprises that leverage these gains will find “free money” that can be re-tasked to strategic objectives.

In order to succeed in this new and highly competitive environment, service providers (now including VoIP-based carriers along with traditional wireline and wireless carriers), eCommunities and enterprise communications departments must deliver new services with reduced time-to-market while simultaneously driving down all associated costs: design, development, delivery, implementation and total cost of ownership.
