A Word to the Public Relations Folks Who Write
I should perhaps share some logistics. I don't feel like I should need to, but I will to be polite. This is for the PR folks out there who might see it.
I receive between 600 and 1,000 email messages daily. Most are superfluous, and I tend to only focus on the ones that seem to warrant action. I use Outlook, and between Outlook's Junk Mail and Norton AntiSpam, they do a pretty good job of clearing out the bad stuff. However, my filters are on the aggressive side. I point this out because I just looked at the Junk Mail and Norton AntiSpam folders before I dumped them and I saw lots of email from you in there. But I deleted it anyway.
You need to understand that if your email is close enough to spam that it triggers a false postive and lands your message there, I won't retrieve it. If my mother sends me a message that lands there, I won't retrieve that either. The difference is that she'll call me, I'll take her call, and we'll be fine. I trust you to call me only when we have an established, trusted relationship, and those of you who have that relationship know If you call, I'll answer if I can, and call or email you back if I can't answer.
The rest of you might want to work on your email structure. If you've been sending press info that's targeted at the right industry and I haven't used it, haven't contacted you and haven't reacted, odds are high that your release went to the great bit bucket in the sky. And if may do so forever. Given the volume of emial I receive, I won't notice and I won't play go fish to retrieve it.
