Reader Question: VoIP Providers Taking Checks vs. Requiring Credit Cards

Interesting reader question -

It seems like a conspiracy that all the voip service providers  I've seen require a credit card for payment.  Is there some kind of rule about  this?  Does there exist a provider who accepts other payment methods (eg. check)?  Thank you.

This is a tough one to call, but I don't think it has anything to do with VoIP providers directly. I see this as just an outgrowth of everyone wanting "digital money" to transfer funds immediately. People who used to bill in arrears now bill in advance. Companies want to collect the money and the interest that follows along with it at the time of ordering rather than after the fact. I've seen vendors who accept electronic checks, but that's less common.

For many small business, I do see this as a problem. In my consulting business, it's easy to write a company check, but I never extended to embrace company credit cards. It was always my personal ones and that created more bookkeeping work for me. Anyone else have any thoughts?
