Interviews and Product Reviews

As part of the ongoing efforts to provide more information in the Realtime VoIP Community, I've been working on several initiatives behind the scenes. Our focus in the community is primarily on business and enterprise VoIP deployment. The challenges with VoIP deployment in business are very different than those of us who work somewhat solo in a consulting role encounter. Scalability and manageability of enterprise scale solutions are critical to enterprise business. Security of the network and protecting corporate assets is paramount, and can be especially challenging when a company has to document compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, Graham-Leach-Bliley and HIPAA, while trying to incorporate all the bext practices of ISO-17799. These are issues those of us with small companies, sole proprietorships, and even mid-sized businesses may never have to face directly.

There's a linkage that's missing in that corporate world. There are some fantastic solutions for VoIP, for collaboration, for presence and the like. Many of these don't immediately show an obvious fit into the corporate infrastructure. I think there's a fit that needs to be indentified and explained. There's a gap, but we haven't yet fully identified or understood the gap.

I'm working to put together a series of interviews with some of the players in and around the VoIP segment that bring some of these innovative new solutions to the table. Solutions that independent workers leverage to their best value, but that aren't really penetrating the corporate VoIP environment. I'm including a series of product reviews where appropriate and where they can be tested as thoroughly as possible.

If you're a reader or member of the Realtime VoIP Community and there's an issue, product or solution you'd like to learn more about, please leave a comment. I'll do my best to coordinate some combination of interviewing and testing to help bring information that isn't readily available about how these innovative solutions might add value to the business network.
